Professional Year Programs

The Professional Year Program (PYP) is a structured professional development program offered in Australia to international graduates of accounting, engineering, and IT degrees. The program is designed to provide graduates with the skills and practical training they need to enter the Australian workforce and to help them gain permanent residency.

To be eligible for the PYP, international graduates must have completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, engineering, or IT from an Australian educational institution within the last two years. Graduates must also hold a valid student visa or a Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485).

The PYP typically consists of 44 weeks of coursework, including a 12-week internship or practical work placement with a host company. The program covers topics such as workplace culture, business communication, professional ethics, and job-seeking skills.

Upon completion of the PYP, graduates may be eligible for additional points towards their permanent residency application under the Australian Government’s Points-Based System. The PYP also provides graduates with the opportunity to gain practical work experience and to establish professional networks in their field of study.

In addition, completion of the PYP can also be beneficial for graduates who are seeking to have their degree assessed by a professional body such as CPA Australia, Engineers Australia, or the Australian Computer Society. A successful assessment can lead to membership and professional recognition in Australia, which can increase career prospects and earning potential.

Overall, the PYP is an excellent opportunity for international graduates to gain practical skills and experience in their field of study, to enhance their career prospects, and to help them gain permanent residency in Australia.
